Careers Counselling

Career counselling involves assisting students to identify and access information, resources and people to talk to about getting to where they want to be in terms of a career pathway.

Students are also given specific information relating to vocational education and training (VET); university pathways; employment opportunities; apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities and career development experiences.

Students receive many job and career related publications in Year 10 which guide them through the process of career development; along with the study of the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) and their work experience program.

We also refer students to various external agency advisors at TAFE and the various Universities for specific information about study/training courses.

Career Counselling support available from:

Alanah Cathro: Vocational Education & Training Coordinator

Karen Pearce: Senior School Wellbeing Leader

Victoria Corbett: Middle School Wellbeing Leader

:听Information about career planning and education, and training options for Australian jobs.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) in schools provides opportunities for students in Years 10-12 to develop an understanding of the workforce, undertake training in specific industry skills and gain credit towards a nationally recognised qualification such as a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma while undertaking the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

Undertaking a VET course while still at school can:

  • Provide you with a head start in your chosen career
  • Make your senior school studies more relevant and interesting
  • Enable you to work towards completing your SACE as well as gaining a training qualification
  • Enable you to combine your school studies with part-time or casual employment
  • Provide opportunities to learn 鈥渙n the job鈥 while undertaking work placement
  • It may also improve admission scores for students planning further study with a University or other training provider.
